In a shop: always say hello
In Serbian shops it is customary to say "Dobar dan" when you walk in, and "Hvala, doviđenja" (thank you, goodbye) when you leave. Staying silent comes across as rude.
Examples
Dobar dan! (when entering)
Good day
Hvala, doviđenja! (when leaving)
Thank you, goodbye!
Tips
- A greeting is always expected in small shops and kiosks; in large supermarkets it is optional.
