Slava: the Serbian family feast
Slava is an Orthodox custom in which each family celebrates its patron saint once a year. Guests are invited and special food is prepared (slavski kolač, žito). It is the most important family celebration.
Tips
- Being invited to a Slava is a sign of great trust. Bring wine or a cake.
- Asking "Koja vam je slava?" (What is your Slava?) is a great conversation starter.
