Treba mi vs. trebam: what's the difference?
Both mean "I need". "Treba mi" (literally "it is needed to me") is the standard form: the thing you need is the subject. "Trebam" + accusative is also widely used in speech, though it is considered less standard.
Examples
Treba mi viza.
I need a visa.
Treba mi pomoć.
I need help.
Trebam doktora.
I need a doctor. (colloquial)

- "Treba mi" works in every situation — use it by default.
